JULY 1, 2011 UPDATE. Marietta's essay took THIRD PLACE in the STATE!!! Congratulations Marietta! Keep up the good work - you inspire us all!
EARLIER THIS SUMMER....Marietta, a camper at Patriot Camp 2010, won first place in the 3rd and 4th grade group in a recent American Legion writing competition with her essay about her experience at Patriot Camp! Her essay will go on to the next level - the American Legion Council level, and possibly on to the Department (State) level where she could win a savings bond.
CONGRATULATIONS MARIETTA!
These photos are from the day we discussed Our Republic. Topics included redistribution of wealth, private property, natural law, and the difference between a democracy and a republic.
Here are some photos from the day we discussed the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
These are some of the photos from the Declaration of Independence theme. The kids played "Ask King George", lit sparklers, signed the Declaration of Independence, and many more fun activities.
We had a number of special guests at our camp including: Betsy Ross, George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, John Hancock, Samuel Adams, Paul Revere, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, John Adams, and George Whitefield. They were all volunteers and made the last day of camp very special for everyone. This group included a State Senator, the Paxtang Police Chief, a Paxtang Borough Council Member, and 2 Borough residents. All but Betsy Ross were Freemasons from the Central PA area. We were also fortunate to have a US Army soldier and a US Air Force airman visit camp.
Our Patriot Camp group walked in the Paxtang Borough Independence Day Parade. We all had a great time and our group won second place!
Patriot Camp 2011 will be held in Paxtang, PA at Saussaman Park June 27-July 1. This year we will have some new themes and topics, and some new founding fathers to meet!
Our target age range will be the same as last year - entering kindergarten through entering 5th grade. We will also need some middle school and high school kids to help as group leaders. Registration forms will be available in May 2011.
